Giclées from Barb’s Art are:
- Museum quality reproductions
- Printed on canvas
- With archival quality inks
They are so good that some people can not tell the difference between the original painting and the giclée, when they see them side by side, even when they are told which is which.
When we decided to start Barb’s Art, we were committed to finding a reproduction method which faithfully replicated Barb’s original paintings in an accurate and durable fashion – without breaking the bank. We discovered that giclées are the modern technique for museum quality reproductions. They are hung in art museums and art galleries around the world. And because they are printed with archival quality inks on canvas, they will provide you lasting enjoyment and something you can hand on to coming generations.
Discovering the giclée process was just the beginning. Faithful colour reproduction is a partnership between artist and colour reproduction professional. Now, two years and several thousands of dollars later, we have a product, and a process, that we are happy with.
Barb’s originals are not photographed. They are scanned directly by our hand picked colour professionals. Then they go through several rounds of proofs and corrections until both Barb and Leo are satisfied.
Finally, each image is personally inspected before it is shipped.
Care of your Giclée
You will be safest if you treat it like it is an original.
Your Giclée will be shipped rolled up in a mailing tube for protection.
It has been sprayed with an costly, high quality, invisible, UV protective coating. This coating will provide your print with some protection from indirect sunlight, water vapour and gentle handling.
It is important to realize that you can damage your giclée with improper handling. They are safest rolled into loose rolls and kept in their tube until framed. This does not mean you can not unroll them and have a look. You can even push pin them by the corners to the corkboard or tape them to the wall until you take them to the framer! We often do that when we inspect them!
Just be careful when you roll them. Avoid folding and creasing. Roll them into a gentle roll that will fit in the tube. With careful handling you will be fine. They are made to last for many years.
If you smoke or want to hang your giclée in a smoky, oily or greasy environment – eg. a kitchen or a restaurant or where it is exposed to a significant amount of indirect sunlight, we recommend that you frame it behind UV protective glass. This way you can just wash the glass. Speak with your framer about where you want to hang it and your framer will suggest the best framing solution for your situation.
Do not hang your giclée in direct sunlight. It will fade. So would an original. Just remember – if you treat it like an original – your giclée will provide generations of enjoyment.
