Barb visited san Luis Ibispo, California, several years ago. She was quite impressed with all of the public art. And apparently, several buildings there have some amazing mosaics on them. She became attracted to the mosaic style and decided to try it in this painting. As you can see from her later work, the mosaic style she discovered in this painting carries on in much of her future work. Even the stone arch on the left carried over to her next painting “Raven and Goldfish”

Even the stone arch on the left carried over to her next painting Raven and Goldfish .
This painting is unique in a few ways. One is that it is the only acrylic on paper painting Barb did, that we have been able to locate. Another is that while she has used the mosaic style in many other paintings, this is the only one in which she has used different colours for the lines. This was also the last large piece that Barb has done. After this, she has used smaller canvas’s because of the pain in her hands.
Barb is constantly in hope of finding a source of effective pain control. Since December of 2006 she has been trying a new class of drug, specifically for neuropathic pain. If it works, it will transform her life in so many respects. It will be interesting to see how effective pain control may impact her art. Perhaps this large canvas will get some company in 2007.
