Drum Moon: Earth Air Fire Water
In December of 2005, Barb and I visited the Sliamon First Nation, just north of Powell River. I took part in a sweat there and we both spent several days in the home of a native Elder. While we were there, we got to speak at some length with this Elder, to attend a teaching he offered on the medicine wheel and to hear of his dream of a healing centre.
Barb writes:
He spoke of the completeness of life.
He spoke of the different directions; of things containing all aspects of each other; of earth, air, fire and water…
And he spoke of a wellness centre… A place where people could heal.
A place where people could learn and understand the rythym of the Earth and create kindness of thoughts for all others…

This image came to Barb and she first drew it while we were staying at an oyster lease owned by new friends. She had thoughts she wanted to get down: a drum shaped moon with salmon coming from it, a fire built in the beach and an orca in the water. Barb is grateful for Patti for scrambling to find drawing materials in the cabin.
The original of this painting is reserved for fundraising. 20% of sales of reproductions will go to fulfilling this Elders vision of a Native Healing Center on or near the Sliamon First Nation.
Signed, numbered limited edition prints and enhanced giclées will be available soon.
