In 2007, The Government of Nepal took a giant step forward, becoming the second nation in the world to create a cabinet level position responsible for Peace. The “Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction: Nepal” was painted to celebrate this extraordinary achievement.

Prints of this painting are to be presented to a Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction delegate to the Third Global Summit for the Creation of Ministries and Departments of Peace in Japan.

This painting is a part of an ongoing series of paintings honouring each of the Departments and Ministries as they are created around the world.

In the painting you will see a fish. This fish was taken from a carving, thought to be on human bone, which had been given to Barb by a friend whom had visited Nepal decades ago. When Barb met Manish Thaapa, a Delegate to the second Global Summit , she immediately thought to give it to him to take back to Nepal. When she asked Mr. Thaapa if he would do it, he readily agreed. He went on to say that he could tell which village it came from.

Approximately half of the proceeds of this painting and The Japanese Lady Delegate for Peace Dancing in the Street will go to fund airfare for third world delegates to attend future Global Summits for the Creation of Departments and Ministries of Peace.
