Barb’s friend who is a teacher (from Barb’s journal ) really likes herons. He has quite a nice collection of them. She had recently been to the Florida Keys. While she was there, she saw a lot of herons – including the Würdemann’s Heron.

Würdemann’s Herons are named after the fellow who “discovered” them in the 1850’s. They only occur in the Florida Keys and occur in “very limited numbers”. Barb thought that a picture of this heron would go well in his collection. So she decided to paint one for him as a present.

The great thing about giving paintings to friends is you get to visit them! He hangs it in his living room and Barb gets to visit it often.
